Joaninha ist das portugiesische Wort für einen Marienkäfer, und das ist genau der Grund, warum unser Freund Valdir José Ferreira seine angestammte Farm so benannt hat. Als Mr. Ferreiras Mutter ein junges Mädchen war, spielte sie jeden Tag mit ihren rot-schwarzen Freunden auf den Feldern der riesigen Kaffeefarm ihrer Eltern. Doch als sich die kommerzielle Landwirtschaft in der Region ausbreitete, ließen die überall eingesetzten Chemikalien alle Marienkäfer verschwinden.
Jahrzehnte später, als ihr Sohn die Leitung der Familienfarm übernahm, beschloss er, sich von der Massenproduktion minderwertiger Produkte abzuwenden und sich auf den Anbau hochwertigerer Kaffeesorten zu konzentrieren. Mit Hilfe unserer geschätzten Partner von der Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza hat Herr Ferreira ein nachhaltiges, gesundes System des Kaffeeanbaus aufgebaut und Boden und Wasser in der gesamten Region verbessert. Und als Belohnung für seine Bemühungen - sogar die Marienkäfer sind zurück!.
