Bumbogo is a young washing station, starting production in early 2017. Despite being a newcomer to the Rwandan coffee scene, the station has been punching well above its weight, more than doubling its production over the last year. It also managed to produce some really great coffees, which is a true feat for such a young operation.

The station is located in the acclaimed Gakenke region, in northern Rwanda, just an hour's drive from the Kigali, the country's capital. The region is renowned for its beautiful vistas, as well as for being one of the most important centers of specialty coffee production in Rwanda. Several coffees from Gakenke have won the Rwandan Cup of Excellence award over the years.

Bumbogo provides services to close to over 500 of Gakenke's coffee farmers. In this natural process, the coffee is floated as whole cherry first with low-density floaters removed for quality reasons. Then the coffee is laid out under canopy and hand-sorted to further screen for defects. Once satisfied that as many defects as possible are removed the coffee is then transferred to raised beds to dry. The drying cherries have to be spaced out thin to prevent mold from occurring. Once dry the cherries are milled at Rugali’s dry mill which is owned by Muraho.
