Discover the origin of all the flavours in your cup.
In this course, we follow the journey of coffee, from wild plants in Ethiopia through to modern industrial farming and commodity trading. Taste coffees from all over the world, and learn how terroir, history, and craftsmanship interact to produce the complex flavours we love.
Armed with your favourite coffee, learn how to get the best flavour out of the bean. Explore different brewing methods to try at home, get an introduction to espresso making, and even try your hand at some latte art!
This is a fun course suitable for total beginners and coffee enthusiasts, but will also be of interest to working baristas who want to learn more about where coffee comes from, or for anyone considering moving into a career in coffee for the first time.
This course covers:
- The history of coffee, and all the stages from farm to cup
- How to taste coffee like a professional (Cupping)
- Home brewing and extraction
This course is accredited by the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA), and is worth 10 points towards the SCA Coffee Skills Diploma, an internationally recognised professional qualification for speciality coffee. To earn their certificate, candidates must complete a written and practical exam at the end of the course. Please read more here and register as a Learner if you are signing up for SCA Certification.
