Product Description
Geraldo Luiz, known as Soró, was one of the first partners of FAFCoffees in the Cachoeirinha valley over 15 years ago when João Hamilton approached him and his father, Seu Geraldo, to start a partnership. Soró is always up for a joke and loves to share stories and ideas from the community. His leadership led many others to join the partnership with João Hamilton and FAF Coffees.
Soró’s family was among the first to settle in the Cachoeirinha Valley, where they initially raised dairy cows on pastures. However, the landscape has changed over the years, with coffee plants now covering the mountain slopes throughout the valley. The valley's namesake waterfall and the surrounding land are stewarded by the Da Silva family, led by Seu Geraldo, Naldinho, Soró, and Zé Pato, along with their neighbours, the Bertellis.
Obata is a hybrid varietal between Timor and Villa Sarchi. Timor itself is a hybrid varietal of Robusta and Arabica coffee beans. Whereas Villa Sarchi is a natural mutation on Bourbon. This gene mutation causes the plant to grow smaller and categorises it as a “dwarf” plant. Obata was created by the Agronomic Research Center in São Paulo, Brazil, and was distributed for use in 2000.
Obata is a rust-resistant plant with a high-yielding cup. The beans are large, and the plant grows best at low to medium altitudes. “This variety is less affected by sickness in the plant. Obata produces coffee with clarity and balance. They typically have a delicate acidity with notes of citrus. They can present themselves as rich and chocolate with a creamy body and long finish. But they can also have vibrant acidity, a lighter body and a floral aroma.
